A Healthy Tip From Dr. Arnold
"No Gummies!"
Avoid rubbery, chewy candies such as gummy bears, fruit roll ups, sour worms, twizzlers, fruit chew snacks, even gummy vitamins. These candies may not have as much sugar as a piece of chocolate but their consistency is such that they tend to get stuck between the teeth, especially in the molar area. Over the years I have found a high correlation between young children (3, 4, 5 years old) who eat these type of candies and an increased amount of cavities between the teeth, aka "interproximal decay".
Unfortunately the baby teeth these candies typically effect will stay in the mouth until the age of 11 or 12 years old.
